EVENTS | HOLIDAY ON ICE - MISTERY
MYSTERY is the new show from Holiday on Ice Productions. This latest presentation, from the undisputed leader in the world of ice skating spectaculars, invites into the world of magic, the mysterious and the macabre.
Opening with a visit to the mysterious East, MYSTERY incorporates elements of magic and the unknown into an elaborate skating extravaganza. This production features a unique new set design by TPi award winning designer Bart Clement and costumes by French designer Edward Piekny. Directed by Anthony van Laast, with choreography from Robin Cousins MBE and music arrangement by Michael Reed, MYSTERY offers an amazing journey into the imagination - on ice.
A gypsy fortune teller leads the audience through the various scenes of the show, first performing a slow sultry number to a female vocal version of the Barry Manilow classic ‘Could it be Magic' with a violin accompaniment. A giant storybook appears on the ice, and through an illusion, the fortune teller trades places with Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. The familiar tale, set to swing music, follows Alice's adventures with all the madcap characters, including the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, and the Queen of Hearts.
The famous music of Saint-Saens brings to life Dance Macabre, a daring number with dark costumes and a bit of the bizarre. Hypnotica includes an amazing flying sequence, set to the music of The Afro Celt Sound System.
The Magical Medley, set in an All American High School, features a three-dimensional school bus as show centrepiece and a variety of classic songs.
Act II opens with a visit to the Planet Zodiac, a fun salute to the astrology signs, with a montage of different songs and character costumes ranging from the beautiful to the absurd. Next, a walk in the park sets the scene for a romantic encounter.
The fortune teller returns for a lively dance number set to Hungarian Rhapsody. A visually enchanting visit to middle earth explores the supernatural realm of fairies and goblins. MYSTERY ends with a salute to the stage and film hit, "The Wiz".
